PROJECT WAS COMPLETED IN JUST 26 WEEKS AND WILL BRING MUCH NEEDED CAPACITY TO TNT’S FAST EXPANDING BUSINESS TO BUSINESS DELIVERY SERVICE IN THE SOUTH WEST
LONDON (August 13, 2015) Gazeley (Brookfield Logistics Properties), a leading global investor and developer of logistics warehouses and distribution parks, has today announced the completion of the development of a 55,898 SF (5,202 SQ M) Parcel Distribution Hub for TNT, one of the world’s largest delivery companies, at its Highworth Road site in Swindon, U.K.
Gazeley worked closely with TNT throughout the process to develop the build-to-suit facility in just 26 weeks. The building features 101 loading doors giving TNT maximum flexibility to allow a greater number of vehicles to access the facility at any given time, improving speed of operations.
TNT chose the site in Swindon given its ease of access to junction 15 of the M4 motorway and rapid connections the site would provide to its tens of thousands of customers across the South and South West of England.
Speaking about the project, Nigel Godfrey, UK Head Gazeley said, “We were appointed by TNT to deliver this flagship Regional Distribution Hub facility back in December last year. We are delighted to hand it over on time and on budget which is testament to the outstanding project delivery team assembled on this project. Our relationship with TNT goes back several years and stretches across several countries in Europe, and we are pleased to deliver this latest facility which has been so well received.
This is our second major development we have undertaken in Swindon to date and sits adjacent to the 796,529 SF (74,000 SQ M) regional distribution center warehouse delivered for leading U.K. DIY retailer B&Q back in 2011. This leaves a further 437,000 SF (40,600 SQ M) left available for build-to-suit development in this much sought after location.”
On completion of the project, Simon Harper, Director of Operations at TNT U.K., commented “This facility is our biggest infrastructure investment in the U.K. for 15 years, and the result that we’ve achieved has been first class. Working with Gazeley we were able to develop the Parcel Distribution Hub to meet our exact needs, benefiting our business, our people, and most of all our customers.”
The Parcel Distribution Hub and adjoining depot is already in use and expected to be fully operational by the end of the year.
Gazeley’s site on Highworth Road, Swindon is a new distribution warehouse development at Junction 15 of the M4. It serves as the leading logistics warehouse development on the M4, comprising of a 98-acre site and can accommodate build-to-suit development opportunities from 135,000 SF (12,592 SQ M) up to 437,000 SF (40,600 SQ M).
The site is prominently located on the A419, opposite the Honda U.K. manufacturing facility. The A419 (Stratton St. Margaret by-pass) is easily accessed and gives fast direct dual carriageway access to Junction 15 of the M4, and the rest of the national motorway network. Local occupiers include DHL, TDG, Wincanton and WH Smith. In addition to the recent facility delivered for TNT, Gazeley completed the first phase of the development in 2011, with the construction of 796,000 SF (74,000 SQ M) regional distribution center for B&Q.
