Logistics Institute of Technology

Logistics Institute of Technology

In light of the growing emphasis on efficiency in supply chains driven by the digital economy, continued investment in education and research is essential for the United Kingdom to remain the forefront of the sector. To maintain Leicestershire’s position as European leader in logistics in Europe, Gazeley proposed the creation of the United Kingdom’s first dedicated Logistics Institute of Technology.

The further and higher education facility, created in partnership with North Warwickshire & Hinckley College, South Leicestershire College, Aston University and Holovis, will deliver a purpose-built campus in the heart of the extended Magna Park, Lutterworth, capable of accommodating up to 1,000 students. The Institute will offer vocational training and education to meet the evolving technical requirements of the distribution and logistics industry.

The LIT will have a significant applied research division that will partner with the businesses at Magna Park, Lutterworth, to ensure that the United Kingdom maintains its credentials as a world leader in logistics.

  • Magna Park Community Radio

In collaboration with Cross Counties Radio, Gazeley are developing a unique Magna Park Radio Service.

Cross Counties Radio Network is a local news and information live broadcasting service aimed at audiences across Leicestershire, Warwickshire and Northamptonshire and the surrounding areas. Cross Counties Radio broadcasts 24 hours a day and has a listenership of over 27,000 smartphone and online listeners and users. With recording studios based at the Sir Frank Whittle School in Lutterworth, Cross Counties is the ideal local partner to deliver a dedicated Magna Park radio service.

The project is to develop a broadcasting service which has the unrivalled potential to promote local businesses, services, transportation and activities to Magna Park businesses and staff and make Magna Park a bigger part of a wider community.

  • Community Liaison Group Forum

Gazeley remains committed to being a good neighbour and to engaging local community representatives. As part of this we have established a Community Liaison Group (CLG) for the purposes of providing information and updates on current development proposals and operations at Magna Park.

We invited local representatives to form a CLG with Gazeley and Magna Park Management Limited. The membership includes local parish councils and local interest groups. Members of the CLG have agreed that minutes of their meetings will be published on this webpage.

Meetings will encourage discussion and allow members to raise issues with Gazeley, obtain feedback and share the views of the local community in relation to developments and operations at Magna Park.

  • Magna Park Community Fund

Gazeley established the Magna Park Community Fund (MPCF) in 2013. The fund is intended to support community projects, voluntary organisations, parish councils and schools. Supported activities include education, well-being and health, sport and recreation, environment, community connectedness and youth activity. Enhanced support will be given to local businesses and employment-led projects.

In particular, the programme aims to support organisations, projects and activities that increase engagement between Magna Park and the local community.

Since 2013 the fund has supported over 40 projects and donated over £60,000.

  • Magna Park Community Open Day

Over the four last years, Gazeley has hosted a Magna Park Community Fun Day. On average the event held in September attracts over 1,500 people from the local communities. The action-packed day attracts families from across the local community, who enjoy a variety of activities included face painting, bouncy castles, mountain biking, family amusements and fairground rides, as well as a complimentary hog roast and drinks. Families also have the opportunity to explore parts of Magna Wood on a woodland nature trail.

Gazeley also takes the opportunity to present an exhibition on the history of the site as Bitteswell Aerodrome during World War II and the subsequent evolution of Magna Park.

  • Magna Park Local Business Directory

Gazeley is committed to supporting local businesses. The local business community provides significant support to the burgeoning logistics sector, and its contributions to the success of the park and the local economy are extremely valuable.

In order to facilitate and foster strong and meaningful relationships between Magna Park and local businesses we have developed a Local Business Directory whereby local businesses are able to promote their businesses to the 26 existing blue chip businesses currently operating at Magna Park.

In addition, wherever possible, the service of local businesses are always prioritised by Gazeley at events such as the Community Open Day.
